Basement Films Receives NEA !

Basement Films to receive grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

Check this out BABY! Man, we are so honored and thrilled to have the NEA recognize the value of our festival. We are speechless and so indebted to ALL the great work the NEA has done and projects they have supported over the years!

The National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $30 million in grants as part of the NEA’s first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $10,000 to Basement Films for our annual Experiments in Cinema international film festival.

The Art Works category focuses on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening of communities through the arts.

“The arts are for all of us, and by supporting organizations such as Basement Films, the National Endowment for the Arts is providing more opportunities for the public to engage with the arts,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “Whether in a theater, a town square, a museum, or a hospital, the arts are everywhere and make our lives richer.”

Experiments in Cinema is an annual Basement Films project (now celebrating its 12th year) whose mission is to bring the international community of cinematic experimentalists to New Mexico to inspire a new generation of media activists to recognize the value of their creative voices and to participate in shaping future trends of cultural representation. In 2017 (April 18-23) EIC will screen 100+ films from 35 countries, host workshops and a special focus on Cuban video art and experimental cinema (5 artist/scholars from Havana will be present at EIC to interact with our audience).
